During the early-1960’s, Hank Booth & John Kiefer operated a Lawrence, KS “Listening Post” on Mass Ave (Main Street). This venture was subsidized by Bloomington’s Pickwick Music wholesale distribution network that out-performed its “rack jobber” competition. This model  inspired Sam Walton’s mass merchandising practices (via Missouri-based Ben Franklin 5&10 stores) before his launching Wal*Mart Stores!
